Hollywood’s Digital Clones

The Creators Project presents ReForm a mini documentary series about the pursuit of creating the digital human. The premiere episode, Hollywoods’ Digital Clones features various artists and authors describing the challenges involved with simulating human movements. As the Chief Visual Officer of ICT, Paul Debevec explains the challenges with designing the human face, “the non verbal cues are extremely hard to master, due to the human experiences of daily lives, there is a lot of details within the eyes.”

The specialised 360 facial recognition systems and body scanning technology have been used in various films and video games. This merge of technical skill and artistry reveal unbelievable potential for anything imaginable to be shown on screen. As author Virginia Heffernan describes it,  “With virtual reality, and now, digital humans, we are creating these digital experiences, that inspires creativity and new dimensions of visual experience.”
